As an indie author, it’s super important to get reviews on my books. Support, in general, is great; tweets about my books, photos of it on Instagram, I love it all! In order to support an indie author and allow us to continue writing books you, as the reader, must tell other people about our books so we can continue to write and thrive as authors. What’s the holy grail of supporting an indie author? Book reviews!

Why Do You Need to Write Book Reviews?

Book reviews are often overlooked by readers because once you’re finished reading a book, you’re done! But why not write a book review? Book reviews mark authors as a credible person. Think of it. If you stumble across a new author and they only have a few reviews, or even worse, none! You’re not going to buy the book. But if you stumble across a book that has a handful of 4 or 5-star reviews along with a 3-star review you’ll know it’s a book that others have read and more-or-less enjoyed. Some people use book reviews to gauge whether or not a book is for them before they go out to buy the book. Add to the community and write a review!

How to Write a Book Review

Just hop onto Goodreads and Amazing and write a quick review. It doesn’t have to be long, just a short little paragraph of what you loved about it and maybe a few things you felt needed improvement. You can do a full analysis of the book, but by all means, it is not necessary. At the end of the day, please remember to be nice. Just because you didn’t like a book doesn’t mean someone else won’t so don’t ever say a book is terrible or start attacking the author. That’s trolling and it’s not being helpful to the community. Books are subjective, so it’s natural that not everyone is going to like a book.

Where to Write Book Reviews

If you write a review, write it for Goodreads and Amazon. Some people take Amazon more seriously when it comes to reading book reviews because Amazon tells us if it’s a verified purchase or not. On Goodreads, it’s very easy to be a troll and write a book review when you’ve never read the book. As a reader, it’s important to post your review on both sites, because why not? Just copy and paste! If you want to write a review on your blog as well, go for it!

Book Review of the Savior’s Champion by Jenna Moreci

So now it’s time to practice what I preach and review The Savior’s Champion by Jenna Moreci. I was given a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

What’s the book about?

It’s basically The Selection meets The Hunger Games meets The Maze Runner. For that reason, I was a little worried when I first picked up the book because I wasn’t sure how “original” the book would be, but let me start by telling you it was indeed, very original.

In short, it’s about Tobias who volunteers to be in the Savor’s tournament, which is a competition to see who gets to marry the Savior who rules that realm. Tobias entered not because he wants to marry the Savior, but because he needs the money from entering the tournament to take care of his family. Here’s the trick: the tournament is a fight to the death!

What I Liked:

I was obsessed with this book! It took me while to read it because I’ve been so busy, but I couldn’t get enough of it! When I was at work, I was thinking about the book, when I finished reading it, I was still thinking about the book!

To quickly go over the technical stuff: The plot was well thought out, there was lots of drive, it was well-paced, it kept you guessing. You could try to guess where things were going but there’s a huge plot twist at the end that head me in shock! I won’t lie when there were moments I literally talked out loud in reaction to the book. My emotions were at an all-time high! I was living inside the book experiencing it and that’s exactly what you want to happen to a reader. There were also a lot of points of comedy provided by Tobias that made the sometimes dark story amusing. And the romance! Oh boy, was this book a tease (in the best way possible!). Overall the book was amazing and I’m dying for book 2!

What You Might Not Like:

I’ll be honest, I liked everything about this book. It’s been a long time I’ve loved a book this much and it’s very refreshing. However, there was a lot of vulgar language, almost too much at times. On the one hand, it seemed appropriate to the characters, but on the other hand, I think it will turn a lot of readers away who don’t have a taste for that. I’m talking the C word, come explicate scenes, lots of gore. But let’s keep in mind, this is not a Young Adult novel. It’s labeled as Adult, which means there are some adult things. However, I have a feeling a lot of people will go into this book thinking it is Young Adult so I just wanted to put that out there.
