Pacing can be an extremely important part of writing your novel when it comes to keeping readers. If you look at book reviews one of the most common complaints is that a book is slow. You have to keep in mind that you are always trying to create a crescendo when building up to your climax. There are many things you can keep in mind when building your climax: short chapters, fast paced dialogue, short sentence structure, ect.. However you also have to give your reader a breather and give slower paced scenes so they have time to digest information. But as I say in the video, don’t pull a Tolkien. Just because The Lord of the Rings can have more than one climax doesn’t mean you can too.
